2K made their moving vehicles this week. We have looked at different types of vehicles and how they move and designed our own. We had to try very hard to get the wheels in the right place so that the vehicles could move when they were pushed along the floor. We did very well and were very happy with our results.

We have been working really hard on our Science recently. We have done lots of investigations involving forces. This one was an investigation to see how the surface of the ramp affected the speed of the car. We had to think of how to keep the test fair. We found out that the smooth slopes make the cars go faster than the rough slopes.

Road Safety Visitors

The Road Safety Team came in to talk to Year 2 about road safety today. The children had great fun and learnt the they need to:
  • STOP
  • LOOK
  • LISTEN
  • THINK

when crossing a road. I hope you can follow these 4 rules on your own now.

Bee-bots

In ICT this week the children in 2K have been learning how to programme a bee-bot to travel from one place to another by programming all of the instructions in at once. Some of us found it a bit difficult but we will be able to practice next week as well. A good first try at this 2K - Well done!!

Assembly reminder

Just a reminder that 2K's assembly will be at 3.00pm in the hall on Friday 1st May. All welcome.

Parents' views

Thank you to all the parents who sent in a completed questionnaire in order to help make our new School Plan. Most comments were positive and thanked the teachers in Key Stage 1 for the good job they do with the children so thank you very much on behalf of our staff.
Unfortunately no parents attended the drop-in session. Because of this Mrs McGrath and Miss McAuliffe will be available before and after school next week for your comments. Please feel free to approach them and let them know of any ideas or comments that will help us to improve our school.

Last week we practised sewing so that we can make our puppets. Lots of us have designed hand and finger puppets which we will make next week in class. I am looking forward to seeing the results 2K.

2K had a great time on Friday when Florence Nightingale came to visit us. We listened to her talk all about her life and then she brought in some artefacts for us to have a look at. Next she chose some of us to get dressed up as a nurse and a soldier and someone to pretend to chop of the soldiers leg! It really hurt!!!!! Florence Nightingale was brilliant fun and the children really enjoyed it.

The children all worked really hard on their Famous Person projects! Welld one everyone!

Friday, 13 February 2009

Happy half term all in 2K! I will put the pictures up of your wonderful presentations the first week back. Congratulations to all those who presented their project - you all did fantastically well and know so many facts about your famous person! Everyone seems to be growing in confidence which is great to see.
If anyone has plans to visit the library over half term then I would suggest researching a favourite plant or animal for the next topic, which will be linked to Science this time around.
Happy holidays! Stay safe and enjoy the rest.

Telling Stories

2K worked really hard at telling stories that they know this week. We read Jack and the Beanstalk and the children then had to think of a part from it and put themselves into the correct order in a line. We started with 'Once upon time' and ended with 'lived happily ever after', just like the traditional tale. Well done 2K you worked really well together!!!

Tuesday, 10 February 2009

Another reminder - 2K have started to bring in their wonderful projects on Florence Nightingale or another famous person. There is still time to bring in the project and share it with the class and get your picture posted on this blog!!! Hurry and bring it in before Thursday!!

Congratulations to 2K on their wonderful assembly! The children all worked really hard to learn their lines and act out the situations given to them. Well done everyone!
